Professor Ben Miller described how his class worked within the NEH Challenge Grant during the 2014-15 academic year:
"This semester my composition students will be asked to think analytically and critically about themselves as subjects exploring 'place.' Writing assignments have been designed to have students connect larger themes to the real places they inhabit on a daily level. We will explore and profile the campus of QCC, including the Kupferberg Holocaust Center, asking how the Holocaust relates to us and to contemporary issues of social injustice. Students will be exposed to more complicated investigations of power and hierarchy as they relate to surveillance, by composing a digital documentary about collaborating SWIG students in Prof. Aliza Atik’s Introduction to Literature course and Aviva Geismar’s Theory of Modern Dance course. Throughout the semester we will model films that explore the Holocaust, social injustice, and contemporary place."
