We prepare students intending to transfer, upon graduation, to B.F.A. professional Theatre degree programs or Liberal Arts B.A. or B.S. Theatre degree programs. We produce a fully staged work of Theatre each semester, providing students the ability to work as artists in a professional setting.
Upon completion of the program, graduates will be prepared to:
Engage in the creation & execution of works of Theatre.
Analyze plays perceptively.
Identify a broad selection of Theatre repertory.
Develop & defend informed responses to Theatre.
The Theatre Unit returns to the Humanities Theater!
THE CHRISTIANS by Lucas Hnath
Directed by Professor Adair
Ten years ago, Pastor Paul’s church was a modest storefront. Now it houses thousands, with classrooms for Sunday School, a coffee shop in the lobby, & a baptismal font as big as a swimming pool. But Paul is about to preach a sermon that will shake the foundation of his congregation’s beliefs. Backed by a live choir, The Christians is both epic & intimate; an unflinching look at faith in America & its power to unite or divide.

Auditions will be held Tuesday August 29th & Thursday August 31st; 6:10pm.
More details to be announced. Be prepared to stay until 8:00pm.
For principals: present a one-minute monologue or soliloquy (one character speaking at length from a published play) in the style/genre of the production. If you do not have a monologue, "sides" (a specific set of lines from the script provided by casting agents) will be provided. Memorization is not required, but encouraged. For the choir: prepare one song to be sung "a cappella" (without accompanying music). We are looking for talent of all levels, beginner through advanced; only a desire to sing is required.
Rehearsals: for principals: rehearsals take place throughout the entire semester, in the evenings/nights & some weekends. A role in the choir will require a shorter rehearsal process. Full schedule will be announced soon.
Receive Credit for Participation: Students cast in production may be enrolled in the course, TH122/222 Actor’s Workshop I & II, which meets Tuesday/Thursday 6:10pm – 8pm, & may receive 3-credits toward their degree.
Open Casting Policy: Auditions are open to all Queensborough students. Experience not required. We are all here to learn. There is no pre-casting, all roles are open, & cast based on quality of audition & student availability for rehearsals.
Non-Traditional Casting Policy: Queensborough explicitly prohibits all forms of discrimination based on race, creed, gender, age, disability, national origin, or sexual orientation. The Theatre Unit is committed to equal employment opportunities for all members, and encourages and promotes a policy known as Non-Traditional Casting. Non-Traditional Casting is designed to increase artistic options by expanding casting opportunities for women, actors of color, and actors with disabilities in roles where race, gender, or absences of a disability are not germane.
