Criteria for evaluating web resources*
The World Wide Web offers access to an enormous amount of information. It is important to evaluate critically the information that you find as a researcher. Here are a few points to consider:
Authority: Who created the website content?
What credentials do they have that makes them qualified to write on the topic?
Objectivity: It is important to consider author's goals and objectives.
Is the information fact, opinion, or propaganda? Is the author affiliated with an organization?
Accuracy: Check grammar and author's background.
Is the information accurate when checked against other sources? Is it free from errors?
Currency: What is the most recent date on the page? Is the publication date clearly stated?
Is it clear when the site was last updated and/or revised?
Coverage: Is information presented in a way that makes sense?
