Linguistics: To consider...

This guide will help you to find resources in the area of linguistics. From Second Language Acquisition, to Historical Linguistics, to Computational Linguistics, this guide is a good place to start your research.

Ideas for themes to research

Some questions to prompt further research:

Does you chosen area have contact with other languages?  What effects do these languages have on each other?

Are there endangered or moribund languages in your area?  Are there efforts to protect and revitalize the language?

Are there established National Language(s) and what sort of attitudes are there to language minorities?

Does your chosen area have a cultural and literary identity?  What about music and the arts?

Do the languages of your area share a script (written form) with associated languages?

Are the spoken languages similar to their written form?  What kind of variations?

Are new words added to the languages' lexicons?  Are these new words technical (e.g. wifi) or cultural (e.g. lol)

What languages are newspapers written in?  What language(s) for government documents?  What language for street/traffic signs?

Is there a large percentage of bilingualism/multilingualism?  How is this supported or even discouraged?

Make the PowerPoint Interesting

Finding interesting images for the PowerPoint

Images used in PowerPoint presentations need to have "re-usable" usage rights (use the tips in the 'Find & Use Media' tab)

Once we find interesting images, we can add them to the PowerPoint:
