The Information Ecosystem of Students and Faculty at a Community College: The Survey Says

Highlights

A questionnaire (with a raffle incentive) was sent to a random sample of 12,000 students. The response rate was 16% with 1,921 students filling out the questionnaire.

Highlights of results include:

  • 90% of respondents own smartphones, and of those 58% do course work on them
  • 75% say library resources are important to their learning
  • 55% have attended a library instruction session
  • 48% prefer to ask for help in person
  • 45% always or usually use the library website when they need to do research or find information for a class assignment
  • 26% have asked for help with a class assignment

Caveat: There is research that indicates subjects often act differently than their self-reporting on surveys.
