Library: About the Library

Welcome to the Library

On behalf of the Kurt R. Schmeller Library of Queensborough Community College, I would like to welcome everyone to the library. I would also like to thank the Queensborough community for the warm welcome I have received since my arrival in March 2007.

Our Library has a variety of resources, including a carefully selected collection of both print and electronic books. Our complete textbook reserve collection is available because of the generosity of our campus Barnes and Noble bookstore. Our periodicals collection includes over 20,000 titles, most of which are available electronically both on and off campus. Our online catalog of book and periodical holdings and electronic journals and databases (called CUNY+) is accessible via our homepage. We also offer access to Internet resources, a wireless network, laptops, and audio/video media and equipment. Our archives include documents and photographs concerning the history of the college. Recently we acquired the papers of Senator Frank Padavan, and we look forward to offering this unique resource to students, faculty, and members of the community who wish to study local and New York State history.

To support College curricula with print and electronic resources, we have made every effort to provide a state-of-the-art, technology-enhanced environment, along with traditional library services.

Our ultimate goals are to foster excellence in teaching, learning and research and to develop competence in information literacy. Our highest priority is the education of our students through instruction at the reference desk, in the classroom and online.

We hope to meet the information and literary needs of students, faculty, and staff to strengthen academic achievement and to enrich life-long learning.
